Southern Illinois Classical Guitars and Strings and Heart Strings Studio will provide a live acoustic performance over the lunch hour on the Third Thursday of the month. This series is free and open to the public, bring a lunch and enjoy live classical strings in downtown Carbondale!

Carbondale Community Arts presents the Southern Illinois Arts Legacy Award annually to individuals whose character and achievements exemplify a dedication to the arts and community in southern Illinois. Its goal is to recognize patrons, advocates, teachers, community development activists, and arts practitioners of every kind. All current or past residents of the southern Illinois’ 26 southernmost counties, with the exception of current CCA board members and staff, are eligible. Posthumous nominees will also be considered.

MAKERS CLUB
CHILDREN'S ART CLASSES with Carbondale Community Arts


Carbondale Community Arts will be hosting weekly art classes for children grades 1-6. Each class will focus on a specific theme or art material. The club will meet Saturday afternoons, 1- 2:30 PM at Artspace304. Each class is $20, which covers the cost of art materials.

Artist of Expressions

 

Artists of Expressions is an annual exhibition featuring works by artists that appeared on WSIU TV program, Expressions - an artist interview program hosted by SIU Professor of Painting, Najjar Abdul-Musawwir. The Artists of Expressions: Season 6 will be on view at Artspace 304, September 6 - November 3, in conjunction artworks, will also be presented at the Corridor Gallery in the Carbondale Civic Center, September 25 - November 15. Artists Laurie Blakey, Karen Fiorino, David Hammond, Jennifer Kaiser, Chintia Kirana, Ariel Loh, Robert Lorenz, Jam Lovell, Justin Vancil, and Shane Ward will present works in both locations which capture the mastery of their medium to create a unique context and personal style.

 

Public Reception: October 6, 5-7PM at Artspace 304. This event is free and open to the public.

Carbondale Community Art will host special gallery hours at Artspace 304 the weekend before the Eclipse. The exhibition LOCALITY will be on view to visitors which celebrates the rich talent in southern Illinois. This salon-style exhibition highlights over 100 of our region’s artists and craftspeople, illustrating diversity of style, technique, media, and concept. This exhibition provides an opportunity to experience southern Illinois visual arts in totality. An eclipse theme are art activity will be available for all ages to get creative!

Eclipse Gallery hours: August 18 - 20, 11AM- 5PM.

This event is free and open to the public.

“Celebrating and encouraging leadership in the field helps to foster awareness of the important role the arts play in the well-being of our communities,” said Carolyn Snyder, a past CCA board member who initiated the award. “In many ways the arts are the legacy of our communities, so we encourage you to take a moment to nominate someone who has advanced access to, support for, excellence in, and/or innovation of arts and culture in southern Illinois.”
