Third Thursday Concert Series at Artspace 304 

February 15, 12 - 1 PM

Musicians Augustin Zehnder, violin, Ken Wollberg, viola, and Ester Mays, piano, will provide a live acoustic performance over the lunch hour on February 15 at noon. The trio will perform a collection of Classical and Americana favorites. This series is free and open to the public, bring a lunch and enjoy live strings in downtown Carbondale!

Carbondale Community Arts is thrilled to host the second Four Rivers Print Biennial. This juried exhibit of prints by artists from across the U.S. will be exhibited at Artspace 304 through March 23. Presented by the SIUC registered student organization "Southern Illinois Printworks," the group curated and installed the fine art prints selected by Lisa Bulawsky, Professor, Printmaking Area Coordinator, and Director of Island Press in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis.

Four Rivers Print Biennial Events

February 24,  4 - 6 PM
Juror Lisa Bulawsky will deliver a lecture on her work at 4 PM, followed by
award announcements and a reception until 6 PM.

March 2, 5 - 7 PM
CCA First Friday Reception 

Both events are free and open to the public.

Southern Illinois is located in the heart of the largest watershed in the contiguous United States. Bordered by the Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, and Wabash rivers, it is also surrounded by regions rich with the traditions of fine art printmaking. Much like the convergence of waterways, the Four Rivers Print Biennial is the confluence of contemporary prints by artists from across the country. The exhibition was founded by Travis Janssen, Assistant Professor of Printmaking in the School of Art & Design at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

Past & Present by Southern Illinois Printworks 
Corridor Gallery in the Carbondale Civic Center

Through February 28  

Carbondale Community Arts is pleased to announce the exhibit Past & Present by Southern Illinois Printworks on view through February 28 in the Corridor Gallery. This group exhibition pulls together work from both past and present Southern Illinois Printworks members and highlights the broad spectrum of styles and techniques possible through printmaking. The mission of Southern Illinois Printworks (SIP) is to promote interest in and understanding of fine art printmaking in the region of southern Illinois. SIP is a registered student organization based within the School of Art & Design at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Active since 2009, SIP is comprised of both undergraduate and graduate students engaged with print media.

This exhibit is presented in conjunction with the 2018 Four Rivers Print Biennial, a national juried exhibition coordinated by SIP, running from February 7 to March 23 at Carbondale Community Arts Artspace 304.

The Corridor Gallery in the Carbondale Civic Center is free and open to the public and is located at 200 S Illinois Ave. The exhibit is available for viewing Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM and during all public events.


Saturday Morning Cartoons
Artspace 304
February 24, 10 - 11 AM

CCA's Artspace 304 will host, Saturday Morning Cartoons, as part of the Big Muddy Film Festival in the Mary Ellen Dillard Media & Performance Gallery at Artspace 304. The film screening will feature a selection of family-friendly animated shorts. All ages feel free to bring a pillow and blanket, get comfy and enjoy a snackfrom the cereal bar, only $1 per bowl! This event is free and open to the public. 

The Big Muddy Film Festival which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. The festival is one of the country’s largest student-run, international film festivals. This year the festival will feature over 80 independent films at various screening locations across Carbondale, February 19- 25.

Makers Club at Artspace 304
Saturday, March 3, 2 - 4:30 PM 

Block Printing with Linoleum
Makers Club will take a tour of the Four Rivers Print Biennial, our current exhibit at Artspace 304, to discover the difference in multiple printmaking techniques. As a class, we will discuss the artworks on display and use them as our inspiration. The class will focus on one printmaking technique, printing using linoleum blocks.

Makers Club with CCA is youth art classes for children grades 1 - 6 hosted on the first Saturday of the month, 2 - 4:30 PM at Artspace 304. Each class will focus on a specific theme or art material. Each class is $15, which covers the cost of art materials and snack. Maximum 10 children per session.

Classes are led by CCA Program Coordinator, Artist, and Art Educator, Stephanie Dukat.

The Varsity Center
Through February 18

The StageCo Carbondale presents the production Agnes of God at the Varsity Center, February 15-17 at 7:30 pm and 18 at 2:00 pm. Among the talented cast is Katelyn Wittenborn in the role of Agnes. Wittenborn was the runner-up 2016 Southern Illinois Regional Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest

Shop small and local at shop304! Located inside Artspace 304, shop304 features local artists and craftspeople working in glass, ceramics, jewelry, sculpture, wood, and fibers. The gallery retail shop is open during gallery hours, Wednesday 11 AM - 5 PM, Thursday 11 AM - 7 PM, Friday, 11 AM - 5 PM, and during all public and special events.
