Bare Branches, by Lijun Chao, is a series of paintings on fabric that reveal the problems of social injustice regarding the traditional concept of bloodline in China. Chao creates awareness of this injustice on the behalf of the females in China in order to promote change. Originally from Heze City, Shandong Province in China, Chao moved to the moved to the US to attend graduate school for painting at SIU Carbondale.


The Corridor Gallery in the Carbondale Civic Center is free and open to the public, located at 200 S Illinois Ave, and is available for viewing Monday - Friday, 8AM - 5PM and during all public events.
