Carbondale Community Arts' Mission:

It is the mission of Carbondale Community Arts to cultivate, nurture, harness and celebrate the creativity of our total community.

GOAL 1: Enhance the cultural opportunities for Carbondale¹s citizens and encourage excellence in arts programming that reaches and reflects all populations of the city.

GOAL 2: Promote the arts as a focus in the education and daily lives of our community¹s youth.

GOAL 3: Inspire community awareness of the arts in all forms and exploit their potential for economic development.

GOAL 4: Promote Carbondale as a cultural leader in the region and the state.

GOAL 5: Work to build CCA¹s capacity as a dedicated and respected agent for achievement in and through the arts.

Carbondale Community Arts is not for profit local arts agency serving Carbondale, Illinois and its environs, with re-granting outreach that extends throughout Southern Illinois. The organization is governed by a fifteen-member volunteer board and supported by major grants from the City of Carbondale and the Illinois Arts Council (a state agency). Additional funding is received from corporate and private donors.

CCA's special event and educational outreach programming features the All Southern High School Theatre Project, Arts in Celebration's September Night, and a Town Square Arts & Humanities Series.

The Corridor Gallery in Carbondale's City Hall Civic Center Complex has been managed by CCA since the building opened as an opportunity to exhibit works by local and regional artists as it expands artistic horizons for incidental visitors.

The Southern Arts Fund, a re-granting project in conjunction with the Illinois Arts Council, provides funding for organizations and individual artists providing educational and outreach programming in the arts throughout Southern Illinois.

ArtWorks in Schools, was launched in the spring of 2003 to place significant works of art in and around our area's public schools. The first ArtWorks installation, a sculpture by John Medwedeff, can be seen at Carbondale Community High School. The fifth and final installation was completed in the Spring of 2008.

Varsity Center for the Arts opened in 2008. Centered in the heart of Carbondale, this historic structure now houses the Jackson County Stage Company. Renovation is underway to Visit www.varsitycenterforthearts.org for more information including giving opprotunities.
